The village was built in the late 16th century following the traditional Macedonian architecture, with raw materials. The village was probably founded by builders , farmers and laborers from Epirus and it formed the eastern border of the zone that was held by Ali Basha of Ioannina. The village itself is rooted in a plateau with an altitude of 1180-1240 meters (~4000 feet) on the slopes of mount Kaimakchalan. The village is surrounded by birch forests while it is dominated by the “Piperitsa” a mountain top with an altitude of 1.998 meters (~6550 feet). In this peaceful stone village with the intense traditional character you will find everything you need to have an easy and comfortable stay, as there are plenty of commercial shops and cozy taverns with excellent meals from the Greek traditional cuisine and with fresh raw ingredients produced by the locals such as honey, fruits and vegetables, dairy products and fine meats including deer, wild boar and pork. Of course everything is accompanied by local-made wine or “tsipouro” (Greek traditional distillation from grapes , like  ouzo)

Only a short drive, the modern capital of Macedonia: Thessaloniki also known as Salonica.
A port city and a metropolis of a million people, with world class public and private hospitals and universities, museums, international bookstores, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine antiquities, including a fully standing and still used Roman Rotunda as well as a Roman forum and an imperial palace, imposing city walls and castles, diverse places of worship (Eastern Orthodox Byzantine churches and early Christian Basilicas, Jewish Synagogues, Ottoman Mosques, Catholic Churches, etc), active art scene, cultural events, gourmet restaurants and a never ending Greek night life .

We love mountains but we should mention that the village is not very far from the sea beaches of Pieria and Chalkidiki for those who like what the Mediterranean sea has to offer.
